Accounting also cannot be avoided and will be part of your training. In larger dealerships, there will be a separate accounting department. Even so, you need to know how the accounting in the service department works with the rest of the company and be responsible for your part.

You will be instructed in marketing as well. Even if you are working in a larger company with a separate marketing division, you need to understand how your department works within the larger marketing effort. Each department is vital to marketing. Automotive service, especially, and its reputation, plays a large role in the ability to market a dealership well.

In short, if you want to move up in your career in automotive servicing, you need to have the basic ability for management.
