August 25th, 2008 by The Handyman

It seems that home theaters are the new home statement today. You will find that many people are drawn to the idea of being able to watch movies in a cinema type atmosphere. These people have an elaborate system set up so that their home theaters look and sound great. Since this seems to be a promising way to watch movies you may become tempted. That is until you find out that you will need to do a lot of home theater wiring.

Now before you become discouraged and decide to chuck the entire lot into the spare room, take a few moments to find out what you have. This way you can sort the various items out and bunch the similar items together. This way when you need to fix them all you will know where each item is. This makes mixing up the various components less of a possibility.

The next thing that you should do is to decide where you home theater system will be and provide enough room so that you can fix up all of the home theater wiring with a minimum of hassle. You can place your TV or movie screen in a central position but make sure that you have clear and unobstructed access to overhead lighting and plug points that may be behind the TV.

This way you can install all of the home theater wiring in the correct positions without any guesswork. Now connect all of the TV cables in the sockets that have been provided for them. Now once your TV is ready for viewing, check to see if there are any problems. By installing your home theater equipment this way you will prevent any overloading of the system and you will be able to see where the various wires need to go.

The next item that you will need to fix for home theater wiring is that of your DVD player. With the player on a shelving unit where ventilation can circulate around and through the player you should make the connections to the TV and to the power unit. Now if you have only one electrical outlet you can buy from various computer shops computer multi plugs.

These multi plugs have the advantage of preventing power surges from over loading your system. As they also have more than one plug you can fix your speaker plugs into that plug point too. However before you start the home theater wiring for your speakers set them in the various places and positions that will give the best sound quality.

Now after you have adjusted their sound enhancing positions you can start the home theater wiring for these surround sound speakers. Make sure that you don’t have any wires trailing all over the ground and under carpeting. Instead fix your wiring along the base of the floor next to the walls. With all of your home theater wiring completed you can now sit back and relax.

Perfect Mattress For Bunk Beds

August 13th, 2008 by The Handyman

Oftentimes, when it comes to bunk beds, parents tend to overlook the importance of finding the right mattress. Sleeping on a mattress that is not en suite to your bunk bed not only means you may get an uncomfortable sleep but can increase the risk of injuries radically.

It turns out that some of the leading causes of bunk bed related injuries are due to improper bedding for bunk beds. While parents may think any twin size mattress is fit for a twin size bunk bed, this is simply not true. A bunk bed mattress must fit not only in length and width but equally important, in height. Many bunk bed related injuries occur due to children and adults rolling over the side guard rail or children sliding under between the guard rail and the mattress. The chances of these injuries occurring can be reduced significantly with an appropriate mattress.

A bunk bed mattress should typically be roughly 4-5 inches lower than the guard rail. The space between the guard rail and the mattress should also not be big enough for a child to slide under or get stuck between. So find the ideal mattress that is not too small, big, or too tall. It will be truly rewarding as your children will get a good sleep!
